WHY WE RUN IN THE DARK

As darkness sweeps around the globe from 9th -16th November 2022, 25,000 people worldwide will get up from their armchairs, slip on their red flashing armbands and pull on their running shoes to complete a 5k or 10k.

Connecting runners both physically and virtually across 5 continents, this global movement will light up the night as people hit the road to Run in the Dark to help cure paralysis in our lifetime.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED WITH RUN IN THE DARK

Run in the Dark offers both live and virtual events. If you are not located in a city with a live event or would like the flexibility of running your own route on your own schedule, you can sign up to a virtual event.

VIRTUAL EVENT INFORMATION 

Event day – Wednesday 9th November

We encourage everyone to take part on Wednesday 9th November so we can sweep the globe together as darkness falls.

However, we understand that you may not be available at that time or would prefer to run during the daytime.

So, the event will remain open from 9th-16th November and you can complete your 5k or 10k any time within that window.

Please note that you may only complete your walk or run once.

 

Your distance – 5k or 10k

The Run in the Dark app will enter you in a 5k or 10k race, depending on which distance you chose when you signed up. 

If you wish to change your distance, you must do so by 6pm on Monday 7th November. To change your distance, please email info@runinthedark.org.

 

Using the Run in the Dark app

You will receive an email at the start of November with informatin on claiming your profile.

The app will be in practice mode until Monday 7th November.

Race mode will be live from 9th November and the next run you track will be logged as your official Run in the Dark.

Ensure your phone is 100% charged before you start your run and turn off other apps to avoid draining your battery. The app uses GPS to track your time and distance so make sure this is turned on.

 

Start timing on the app

You must press Start Race and listen for the announcement that says, “Your race has started”. If you do not press START before starting your run, your time will not be tracked.

 

Strava & Garmin

If you wish to use a wearable device with Strava integration or a Garmin device to time your 5k or 10k, you can import your run data into the app.

In the app, click your name and then click the “Import” button at the bottom of the screen.

 

Health & Safety

If walking or running solo, make sure someone knows your route, your start time and expected finish time. We strongly recommend you take your phone with you for safety reasons, and also so you can track your time and distance using the Run in the Dark app.

It is also advisable to carry emergency contact information with you in the unlikely event it should be needed.

 

Share your run on social media!

Use the selfie frame on the Run in the Dark app to share your achievement with friends and family! Simply click the Selfie button in the menu at the bottom of the app.
