Run in the Dark is delighted to announce Financial Broker as sponsor of its 2019 events in the Republic of Ireland. Financial Broker is the premier representative body for financial brokers in the country.
Commenting on the partnership with Run in the Dark, Duncan Duke, President of Brokers Ireland, said: “We’re proud to collaborate with Mark Pollock and his colleagues on Run in the Dark 2019. There are fantastic synergies between Run in the Dark which endorses wellbeing and exercise and our Financial Broker brand which offers consumers a go-to site for financial planning and guidance. Studies show that good financial planning leads to people feeling more confident and having a greater sense of wellbeing and positivity about their financial futures”.
Run in the Dark is the main fundraiser for the Mark Pollock Trust. As darkness sweeps around the globe on 13th November, 25,000 people in 50 cities worldwide will get up from their armchairs, slip on their red flashing armbands and pull on their running shoes to complete a 5k or 10k run. Together, from Sydney to San Francisco, they will light up the night as they hit the road to Run in the Dark.
Unbroken by blindness in 1998, Mark Pollock became an adventure athlete, including being the first blind person to race to the South Pole. In 2010, a fall from a second story window nearly killed him. Mark broke his back and the damage to his spinal cord left him paralysed.
Commenting on his mission, Mark Pollock said: “As I lay in hospital for 16 months, digesting the impact of my accident, I was physically and mentally broken. With the help of so many people around the world, I have established a new life living with blindness and paralysis. Now, I donate my paralysed body to experimental research as I explore the intersection where humans and technology collide and catalyse collaborations that have never been done before. My goal is to participate in finding the cure for paralysis in our lifetime.”
Paula Cunniffe, CEO of The Mark Pollock Trust and Run in the Dark said: “Everything we do at Run in the Dark is about inspiring people to build resilience and collaborate with others so that, together, they achieve more than they thought possible. For some that means gathering a group of friends or colleagues to train hard and get fit. For others it means building a team of experts to perform better. For us, at the Mark Pollock Trust, it means supporting Mark Pollock to deal with the ongoing impact of his catastrophic spinal cord injury”
